About me

In summary, I'm a research scientist and award winning science communicator with a love for all things science. When I'm not in the lab you can find me among a bunch of school pupils, engaging at a STEM event or mothering my girls. Co-founder and CEO www.ghscientific.com. Chapter lead for Science grrl in Essex and organiser of Big Biology Day in Essex. Final year PhD candidate at UCL GOS Institute of Child Health.

A love for all things science is probably an understatement. 😁! I'm a proud #STEMgeek.

My science career started in 2007 when I graduated with a BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Science. I soon secured a research assistant job after my first application and interview in what was then a small biotech at the babraham research campus in Cambridge. It was the perfect place to work with a lovely bunch of people who helped me grow. After about 2yrs, it was time to move on.
I took up a position as a protein scientist at a start -up research and manufacturing company also based at the babraham research campus and here I learnt a lot of the science and business development basics. As a small team we all had to be jack of all trades. Research, manufacturing, quality control, sales and marketing, packaging and shipping and customer service.  About 18months later I made another move. This time back into formal education.
I took a post graduate degree in pharmaceutical science and management studies to complement my experience from the two organisations. The course content was so interesting. I had more insight into subjects including drug manufacturing, patenting , clinical trials, business management and basic accounting.
12months later it was time to get back into employment.
I did a couple of stints at a science charity and back at my 1st biotech coupled with marriage and my 1st mini me. 😘. When it was time to take a break from sniffing baby bums, I secured a senior position at a global pharmaceutical company whiles searching for a suitable PhD position and soon moved on to start my PhD.

During this time, I've been a STEM Ambassador, science writer and undertaken several projects to engage the public the science mostly in under represented regions (Essex) and the Black Minority community.

I've also been a health care assistant with the NHS for about 5years from my gap year through to my time as an undergrad and worked with autistic kids whiles at graduate school. Such rewarding experience being in the health care industry. At 6th form I worked at greggs and have the pleasure of sampling lots of yummy fresh bread, pastry and cakes 🍰😋

I now ran a science communication and public engagement with science organisation which I co-founded with my brother in 2014.

In another life, I would love to be a professional Science dancer  💃🏾.
